PSEA Vice President Korri Brown passed away suddenly on May 18, 2019. She was 41 years old.
Korri was elected PSEA vice president by the Board of Directors on Nov. 29, 2018. She took over for Rich Askey, who became PSEA president on Nov. 13, 2018. She would have started a two-year term as vice president on Sept. 1, 2019.
Korri was a PSEA member since 2002 and a local officer since 2004. She served as PSEA’s Southeastern Region president beginning in 2013 until becoming vice president and as a member of the PSEA Board of Directors since 2011.
"Korri was a close friend, and someone I deeply admired for the energy and enthusiasm she brought to everything she did," said PSEA president Rich Askey. "We’ll always remember her for the incredible, dedicated leader she was. Korri leaves a legacy that we’ll never forget, and a friendship for which I will forever be grateful."
Korri was a special education and emotional support teacher in the Kennett Consolidated School District for nearly 20 years.
Born and raised in Philadelphia, Korri’s roots in Pennsylvania education ran deep. She came from a family of teachers, and in 1999 graduated from West Chester University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education with a concentration in Political Science.
Korri’s teaching career began in special education in January 2000 at Devereux, an approved private school. In August 2002, she was hired at Kennett High School, where she has been a special education and emotional support teacher ever since.
During her time at Kennett, she served on the student assistance team, as an assistant coach on the girls’ cheer team, and as a member of the district’s Strategic Planning committee.
In 2003, she earned her master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from Immaculata University.
She also served as parliamentarian for the Chester Alumnae chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., a public service sorority.
As PSEA vice president, Korri led the Association’s efforts related to implementation of Pennsylvania’s Every Student Succeeds Act plan and participated in strategic planning for the organization. She was a tireless advocate for the PSEA members she cared so much about and their students.
As many of you know, Korri was always looking for ways she could support students, members, or her colleagues. She was fond of saying, "Is there anything I can do for you?"
